I agree with many of the concerns raised in the “Angry Citizen” letter published in the July 23, 2026, edition of the Mountain Echo. As a citizen who has watched many Flippin City Council meetings online, I believe there are still too many important questions that deserve clear, straightforward answers from our city government.

Coming to the food closet for the first time can feel like a big step. It helps to know what you’re walking into. You’ll be greeted by volunteers who are there because they want to be neighbors who have chosen to give their time to this work because they care about the people in this community. The atmosphere at YAFC is welcoming and low-key. There is no intake interview, no means test to pass on the spot, no process designed to make you feel like you must earn what you’re there to receive.
Maybe you’ve driven past the Yellville Area Food Closet a dozen times and never stopped. Maybe you’ve wondered whether you qualify for help, or what the process looks like, or whether it would feel awkward to come for the first time. Maybe you know someone who needs help but isn’t sure how to ask.

Eugene Raymond “Gene” Fischer, 81, of Flippin, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Gene was born on December 21, 1944, in East Chicago, Indiana, to Lawrence and Marion (Ledna) Fischer.
Wanda Marie Parton, 84, of Gassville, peacefully passed away on August 8, 2026. She was born on November 3, 1941, in Gamaliel, to Delbert Uchtman and Lydia (Henson) Uchtman.
