My uncle Norten has been gone for several years now but I came across this story recently that I thought today’s readers might enjoy. It is almost 20 years old.
Coming in just in front of the Title IX, the Yellville-Summit Lady Panthers won Back-to-Back State Championships in Girls’ Track and Field. Title IX was established was passed June 23, 1972, as part of the Education Amendments of 1972.
Growing up in a family of athletes and coaches, I’ve been around (and loved) sports my entire life. But, before Title IX became law in 1972, there were very few opportunities for me and many other girls around the country to play organized sports. I and my friends didn’t really question that. It was what it was, and it was all we’d ever known. I did kind of wonder, when my mom talked about playing on state championship basketball teams in high school, why I didn’t have that opportunity. But none of the girls I knew ahead of me in school had, so, again, it was what it was.
Joseph Michael Milner of Mountain Home went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. Michael was born to Shane and Sheila Milner on February 28, 1989, in North Little Rock.
James H. Endicott, age 90, of Yellville, Arkansas passed away Thursday June 23, 2022, in Springfield, Missouri. James was born April 12, 1932, in Mount Vernon, Missouri to James Harrison and Iris Mildred Johnson Endicott.
