To the Mayor, City Council, and Amphitheater Administration, I am writing to formally express my frustration and disappointment regarding the excessive noise generated by concerts at the amphitheater. The volume of these events has reached levels that are completely inappropriate for a venue located near residential neighborhoods, and the fact that concerts continue past 10:00 p.m. only makes the situation worse.
One of the greatest strengths of Marion County has always been the way its people show up for one another. When a need arises, this county has a way of responding that is quiet, practical, and deeply generous. It doesn’t always make headlines, but it gets done — because that’s who we are here. Jimmy Dale “Red” Milligan, age 86, of Yellville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026. Jim was born on December 3, 1939, at his family home in Bruno, Arkansas, to Howard and Alma (Carson) Milligan.
Anthony Lee Houk Gardner, 30, of Lead Hill, Arkansas, passed away on May 25, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Anthony was born on November 9, 1995, in Yuba City, California, to his loving mother, Elizabeth Gardner.
Focus on financial accountability, fraud prevention, and strengthening county operations
FLIPPIN - On Tuesday, May 26, the Flippin City Council met inside the city courtroom at 6 p.m. to consider ordinances, resolutions, reports, and complaints from audience members. Lacie Bettencourt from Ward 1, Jodi Howard from Ward 1, Margaret Ott from Ward 2 along with the Heith Hogan, Mayor and City Clerk. Tony Ford from Ward 2 was absent from the meeting. Council members moved through the monthly minutes and city financials quickly by accepting both topics. The Flippin Fire Department delivered a report explaining calls answered and training by members of the department. The Flippin Police Department gave the numbers of stops, calls, arrests and training that took place, if any. The city council amended the annual budget for fire, sewer, and water by approving a resolution. Next was an ordinance to change the mayor’s position from full-time to parttime. CONWAY - The University of Central Arkansas held May commencement ceremonies Thursday and Friday, April 30 and May 1, in the Farris Center on campus, conferring approximately 1,200 undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; College of Business; College of Education; College of Health and Behavioral Sciences; College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics; and the Graduate School.
SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI - Each semester, students at Missouri State University who attain academic excellence are named to the deans list. For undergraduate students, criteria include enrollment in at least 12 credit hours during the spring semester and at least a 3.50 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
