Little Rock - The school year is winding down, and many Arkansans are making summer vacation plans. Whether it is a trip to the beach, somewhere abroad, or one of Arkansas’s many lakes or state parks, Arkansans should keep a watchful eye to avoid falling victim to a vacation scam. Scam artists are using the internet, including online advertising and social media, to pitch free or deeply discounted travel deals.

In 1722, when French explorer Jean-Baptiste Bernard de La Harpe and his crew were exploring by way of the Arkansas River, they came upon what they called “La Petite Roche” or “The Little Rock” on the south bank of the river. This “little rock” became a landmark for travelers and gave The Natural State the name for its future capital city.

As our nation mourns the death of nineteen students and two teachers at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, the national conversation has turned again to the need to make our schools more secure. In Arkansas, educators and legislators have long recognized the need for vigilance to keep our children safe.

Little Rock – Two new virtual statewide charter schools have been approved by the Arkansas Board of Education. The board’s action allows Founders Classical Academy to add as many as 500 slots for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Since 2010, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery has helped raise more than $1.1 billion to fund more than 675,000 scholarships for students attending 51 Arkansas colleges and universities. This week we want to remind you about the fast-approaching deadline to apply for the next round of scholarships.

It is rumored the Marion County Road Department conducted a meeting asking for voluntary layoffs. They say the County Judge is prepared to layoff Road Department employees and the meeting was conducted by Greg Ashton of the Road Department.
