Congress passes Recovering America’s Wildlife Act

Little Rock – Applications for the 2022 Arkansas alligator season are available at www.agfc.com from 8 a.m., June 15 through midnight, June 30. Anyone interested in pursuing alligators on public land in Arkansas must apply for one of the six hunting locations within two of Arkansas’s three open Alligator Management Zones.

Subscribe to Arkansas Wildlife, receive 2022-23 calendar

It’s always a good time to subscribe to Arkansas Wildlife, the bimonthly magazine produced by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, although this may be the best time of year. The July-August issue of the magazine is the calendar edition, full of information about the Arkansas outdoors such as hunting dates and sunrise/sunset times, and stunning photos of native wildlife.

“Would you like to buy…”

It did not take me long to realize that, as grateful as I am to have this opportunity to write, having a weekly column is not without its own challenges. Some weeks the topics – and subsequent words – flow easily. Other weeks, they trickle. And then, occasionally, the flow is completely damned up. This has been one of those weeks. I still have quite a number of special memories to share, but I’m determined to find accompanying photos before I go with them.

Turtles taking to the streets don’t box them in

Little Rock — Turtles are on the move all over Arkansas, and many can be found alongside roads in rural and suburban areas thanks to a wet, relatively cool spring that created excellent foraging areas in ditches and grassy areas beside the hustle of daily traffic. Many turtles are finishing up their annual breeding and egg-laying cycles, which also puts them on the move.

North Central Arkansas Prescribed Burn Association

The North Central Arkansas Prescribed Burn Association was formed in March of 2020, with the support and guidance of the Arkansas Game and Fish Department, Quail Forever, and USFWS Partners for Wildlife. It includes the counties of Marion, Searcy, Boone and Baxter in North Central Arkansas.
