Every five years, Congress sets out to write and pass a new farm bill, the cornerstone of our nation’s agriculture policy. It is a daunting undertaking. However, passing farm bills in this manner offers an opportunity to see what policies are working for our agricultural, nutrition and rural communities, and which ones need updates to better serve their needs.

Huge Win at SCOTUS Protecting Religious Liberties in School Choice

Little Rock — Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge applauds today’s United States Supreme Court opinion protecting religious liberty. The opinion issued in Carson v. Makin comes after Rutledge led a 21-state coalition urging the Supreme Court to declare that Maine could not exclude religious schools from its school choice program. The Court agreed, holding that Maine’s exclusion of religious schools violated the First Amendment.

Ray Williams of Midway

Ray Williams was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on March 23, 1952, to Archie and Beatrice Rushing Williams. Ray passed from this world on Saturday June 18, 2022.

William Arthur Gawne, 59, of Peel, Arkansas, passed away June 6, 2022. Born March 5, 1963, in Wayne, Michigan, the son of Gilbert and Anges Williams Gawne.

James Endicott of Yellville

James H. Endicott, age 90, of Yellville, Arkansas passed away Thursday June 23, 2022, in Springfield, Missouri. James was born April 12, 1932, in Mount Vernon, Missouri to James Harrison and Iris Mildred Johnson Endicott.

A local, first-hand account

Growing up in a family of athletes and coaches, I’ve been around (and loved) sports my entire life. But, before Title IX became law in 1972, there were very few opportunities for me and many other girls around the country to play organized sports. I and my friends didn’t really question that. It was what it was, and it was all we’d ever known. I did kind of wonder, when my mom talked about playing on state championship basketball teams in high school, why I didn’t have that opportunity. But none of the girls I knew ahead of me in school had, so, again, it was what it was.
