The American Legion Post #61 of Yellville will host Coffee and donuts first Saturday, September 3, at 9 a.m. The event is open for all veterans.

Governor’s Address

Today, I’d like to talk about the steps we are taking to reduce violent crime in Arkansas. In 2017, there was a shooting at the Power Ultra Lounge in Little Rock.

Legislative Update

September is National Recovery Month. It is a national observance held every to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices.

Arkansas’ First District

This week, President Biden signed an executive order to cancel up to $10,000 in student loan debt per recipient and up to $20,000 for those who received the Pell Grant. There is no such thing as canceling or “forgiving” student loan debt.

Capitol Discussion

Many federal agencies continue to fight backlogs as they dig out from pandemic shutdowns and two years of limited staffing. Having agencies like the Social Security Administration open in person again is welcome and I am pleased to see progress being made on getting caught up, however, I continue to hear the frustration of Arkansans every day who are working through bureaucratic processes that, unfortunately, are taking longer to resolve than in prior years.

Nina Kirkland Wood of Flippin

Nina Kirkland Wood, age 90, of Flippin passed away in her home August 22, 2022. She was born August 9, 1932, to Floyd and Myrtle Swan Kirkland on the family farm in the shadow of where Bull Shoals Dam now stands.

James Reed of Harrison

He graduated from Humphrey High School in 1957. He began his college education at Arkansas State Teacher’s College, now University of Central Arkansas where he finished his bachelor’s degree in Social Studies in May of 1962.

Monica Williams of Flippin

Continued from A2 OBITUARY had a nice, cold glass of sweet tea to offer anyone who was thirsty. Monica is survived by children: Keela Grayham- Walters, Robert Monica Nanette Williams, age 74, of Flippin Arkansas passed away Saturday August 27, 2022, at her home.
