UAFS Season’s Greetings Concert Slated for Nov. 29

In a longstanding tradition, the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s Department of Music and Theatre will present Season’s Greetings, a wide-ranging concert, featuring some of the season’s favorite and best-known music, performed by every major musical ensemble in the department.

This time of the year always brings up all the things we are Thankful for. I am most Thankful for having the Lord in my life.

History on Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated on various dates in the United States, Canada, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Liberia. It began as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Similarly named festival holidays occur in Germany and Japan.

Shirley Weaver of Bull Shoals

Shirley Ann Weaver of Bull Shoals, Arkansas, passed away November 13, 2022, in Bull Shoals, Arkansas at the age of 83. She was born January 16, 1939, in Three Rivers, Michigan, the daughter of Russell and Bertha Blake Weaver.

Brighten the Holidays with Colorful Plants

Garden centers, florists and grocery stores are filling their shelves with a variety of holiday plants; a sure sign the holidays are approaching. This is the time of year to give, receive or fill your home with colorful poinsettias, Christmas cactus, cyclamen, and other holiday plants. Extend their beauty and longevity with proper care.

Thankfulness

We can’t help but be thankful that it was such a mild fall, but I refuse to be happy about the cold that has whacked us in November. But then, I am happy to see a good number of ducks arriving from up north as of yet. I can’t see how anyone would not be happy about that!! On Thanksgiving Day, we all gather to give thanks for our health and happiness, and there is an awful lot to be thankful about. But few people are thankful for flocks of ducks, like I am. If we just had more water in the Ozarks right now I would just be as tickled as a coon dog with a panful of burnt biscuits!

Hello, I hope this week finds everyone in good health and happy spirits. Thanksgiving is upon us; I hope everyone has plenty to eat and enjoys every minute with your loved ones. We plan to eat lots and play with the grandbabies and enjoy the extra time of.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Did you know that more than 12 percent of all turkeys produced in the United States are raised right here in Arkansas? Arkansas produces 27 million turkeys per year and ranks third in the nation in turkeys raised. But that’s not the only popular Thanksgiving dish that may have started its journey on an Arkansas farm.
