Primary Election Dates May 9 through May 23, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

WASHINGTON – As spring planting season approaches, Arkansas agricultural producers are facing record high increases in fertilizer prices. U.S. Senators John Boozman (R-AR) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) are raising their concern to President Joe Biden regarding the rising cost of this key farming component.

LITTLE ROCK - The Venture Center today announced a new date for its inaugural fintech conference that will feature many of the banking industry’s biggest influencers. Due to the impacts of the COVID-9 Omicron variant, event organizers moved the inaugural event to the new August 15 - 17 dates in Little Rock, Arkansas.

LITTLE ROCK – In recognition of National Arbor Day, the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Forestry Division will be hosting giveaways of bare root seedlings at various locations across the state each Friday from March 18 through April 29.

On Tuesday, March 15, an interlocal meeting was held at the Yellville City Hall to discuss the police contracts between Marion County and the cities of Summit and Yellville at 5:30 p.m. Shawn Lane, Yellville Mayor, Clinton Evans, MC Sheriff, Rick White, Justice of the Peace, Melissa Dorsey, City of Yellville, Karen Carter, MC Judge’s Office and Ken Rigby, Yellville City Council were in attendance for the meeting. Absent was John Massey, MC Judge was sick, and Tobey Norberg, Summit Mayor for City Council meeting.

I’ve written many times about the importance of newspapers to our democracy and communities. For centuries, newspapers have always been there to inform, educate, announce weddings, births, and deaths. An important role of newspapers is to protect citizens by supporting the public’s right to know what their local, state and federal government officials are doing, and the records kept.

LITTLE ROCK — For produce growers, keeping their farms free of microbial contamination and reducing foodborne illness outbreaks is key to the success of their crop and business. To support these efforts, the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture will offer a two-day, remote produce safety training workshop for fruit and vegetable growers, providing important information on best practices, risk management and regulatory requirements.

It’s never too early to plan for next year, or even too late to implement some changes this year. As we are working around our property, we all see things that maybe we would like to do different.
