EXCERPT from the book— “Life and Times of the Pool Hall Kid” (not yet published) Probably it happened when I was eleven, maybe twelve. I think that’s when it was…back when I wasn’t very smart. Dad and Grandpa McNew had purchased, via bank loan, the Pool Hall about halfway down Main Street there in Houston. Dad was making some changes, putting in better spittoons and cleaning everything and putting up some big pictures. (One was of a flock of ducks, another of a fish jumping out of water.) Lights over the tables had to be cleaned and given brighter bulbs. And Grandpa wanted to move the big ‘chest’ soda machine.

Washington – The U.S. Senate unanimously approved a pair of legislative initiatives championed by Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee senior member U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) to modernize breast cancer screening policies and the delivery of lifesaving care for women veterans.

It is time for the 5th Annual Bunny Run. There will be a 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run for kids.

Mountain Home Moose Lodge #1953 will hold its monthly all-u-can-eat fried fish and shrimp dinner this coming Friday, April 1st from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Guests may order fried fish, fried shrimp or a combination plate which also includes hushpuppies, French fries, coleslaw, vegetable, roll, dessert and a beverage.

The monthly meeting of the Fleet Reserve Assn. Branch 251, Mountain Home, AR, will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022. Location will be Alley White American Legion Post 52, 717 Market Street, Mountain Home.

The Marion County Budget Committee will meet on Thursday, March 31 at 5:30 p.m. at the annex. Agenda items will include a cyber security presentation and cleaning up some line items in the 2022 budget. The public is invited to attend.

The Master Gardeners of Marion County will be having our annual plant and bake sale on Friday, April 22, from 7:30 a.m. until sold out at the Yellville City Park.

The North Central Arkansas Veterans Council Quarterly Meeting will be held at Alley White American Legion Post 52, 717 Market Street, Mountain Home at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday April 9, 2022.

Mountain Home – The Peitz Cancer Support House of Mountain Home will host the 2nd Annual Kick Cancer in the Bass benefit fishing tournament on Saturday, October 15, 2022, out of Bull Shoals Boat Dock in Bull Shoals, Arkansas.
