Womack Pays Tribute “The Coast Guard Lady”

Washington, DC- February 4, 2022....Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) today spoke on the House floor to honor the life and legacy of the late Lois Bouton of Rogers, who was affectionately known as “The Coast Guard Lady.” Lois—a World War II veteran and member of the Greatest Generation—had a devotion to service and the U.S. Coast Guard that followed her through life. Womack’s tribute recognized her unmatched work to uplift her fellow Coasties by writing thousands upon thousands of letters to those protecting us from coast to coast. This lifelong patriot will be laid to rest in Arkansas on Monday, February 7th.

Arvest Bank Announces Davenport Hiring

Mountain Home- Arvest Bank is pleased to announce it has hired Steffan Davenport as a business banker, a new position in Mountain Home. Davenport spent two years as an intern at Arvest while earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Arkansas Tech, working in credit analyst and business development roles.

Volunteers Appreciation Dinner Held at Bull Shoals VFW Hoevel-Barnett Post 1341

TApproximately 75 volunteers from the Bull Shoals VFW Post 1341, Bull Shoals American Legion Post 431, Bull Shoals VFW Auxiliary, VFW Riders Group, and VFW supporters were served a Barbeque Rib dinner in appreciation for their many hours of volunteering over the past year. They give hours of their time to serve and assist veterans, provide and deliver medical equipment to veterans, visit veterans in care homes, deliver quilts to veterans, assist with Fish Fry dinners, cooking and serving free Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for veterans and the local community. (All monies from dinners go into the Veterans’ Relief Fund). They also send Troop Boxes to active military, organize and have a Children’s Christmas party, assist with Toy runs, have special recognition dinners to honor our local Police and Fire Departments, and many more events and projects for veterans during the year that are too numerous to list. The VFW and American Legion could not survive without the many dedicated, compassionate and hardworking volunteers.

Almost 80% of school districts with significant Covid 19 issues

Despite a few signs that the Omicron Wave of infections may have peaked in parts of the United States, Covid-19 hospitalization in Arkansas surged yesterday (Wednesday) to a new pandemic high of 1,819. An official at the Arkansas Department of Health noted that because the state in not tracking positive results from at-home tests, the number of infections reported daily by the agency is only “the tip of the iceberg,” and urged Arkansans to continue to take precautions.

Eating problems for breakfast . . .

Every morning I wake up with the understanding that I will encounter problems throughout the day. Some I will predict or know are coming; others I know will blindside me. Accepting the fact that problems will arise is an asset because in viewing them as opportunities helps me. There’s a saying attributed to Alfred A. Montapert, “Expect problems and eat them for breakfast.” I really like this thought because it inspires me to be proactive in dealing with tribulations. My frustration is lessened because I know and accept snags and complications happen. It helps me to remain calm, access the situation and then act. Accepting the possibility of problems helps in a couple ways. It takes the sting out problems when they arise. Have you ever been around anyone who gets bent out of shape when issues arise? Whining, complaining and exhibiting frustration are time wasters and energy drainers. These three things do damage as they bring down morale, drain momentum for those trying to work, and it’s just plain ugly behavior.

State Employee Convicted

Little Rock- Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge announced the conviction of court reporter Michael Ashcraft, an Arkansas State employee, of a class D felony theft. From January 2015 to June 2018, Ashcraft manipulated, misappropriated and misused membership funds more than $100,000 without the knowledge or permission of the Arkansas Court Reporters Association board members or association membership.
