Today’s Highlight in History:

On July 5, 1947, Larry Doby made his debut with the Cleveland Indians, becoming the first Black player in the American League three months after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in the National League. (In the game against the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park, Doby, pinch-hitting for Bryan Stephens, struck out in his first at-bat during the seventh inning; Chicago won 6-5.)

YSHS FBLA Students Compete

Four students from the Yellville-Summit High School FBLA Chapter competed at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, in June. Elizabeth Smith competed in public speaking while Gracie Beaty, KJ Moore, and Kyleigh Still competed in sales presentation. They qualified to compete at the national level by placing in the top four of their respective events at the state level. While in Atlanta, these students attended sessions at the conference and competed in their events. Outside of the conference, the students had the opportunity to explore attractions in Atlanta including the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola.

Kick-Off Event

The Community Outreach is sponsoring a Pet Food Donation Drive in honor of Coco’s Party Wednesday, August 2. The Pet Food Drive will collect donations and distribute products to the local pet shelters.
