HARRISON – Buffalo National River will be installing a new water line to Steel Creek starting on Monday, July 29. As a result, the only road accessing Steel Creek will be shut down Mondays through Thursdays from 8:00 a.m.

LITTLE ROCK – As the 2024-2025 school year begins, the state Education Department is making grants available to Arkansas school districts to help implement cell phone restrictions in the classroom. Prohibiting or restricting cell phone use by students is complex, because they can be necessary for learning and doing research.

I spent a couple of days last week down in Arkansas White River country, ending up all the way down in Mountain View, restocking some of my outdoor books. While at Mountain View, I stopped in a woodcarver’s shop, and I haven’t seen anything like it since I first saw Peter Engler’s carvings at Silver Dollar City in 1968. The woodcarver’s name is Randall Head, and all around the grounds where is shop is found, there are huge carvings, many life-sized and spectacular. Eagles and wildlife carvings are everywhere, from songbirds to mountain lions. He is one of the most unusual people you will ever talk to and one of the most talented.
