Looking at a blast from the past; many Marion County residents may remember a fire in 1984 that destroyed a downtown restaurant in Yellville. The Mountain Echo is scheduling a different memory for Marion County Residents each week. Some of these glimpses into our past will be theme based depending what is going on that week. Please, let us know if there is something in particular that you want to remember or pass down to the next generation.

COTTER – The Cotter Public School Board met August 21, 2025, 7:00 p.m. The following members of the Board were in attendance for the meeting: Allen Franks, Jimmy Morgan, Cameron Ross, Andy Slater, and Russel Duggins. Administrators and other guests were also in attendance.

Seventy-five years ago, in November 1946, a brief article appeared in the Birmingham Star Gazette with an accompanying photo. Patients from the Birmingham VA Medical Center in Van Nuys, California beat the team of doctors they were playing in a game of wheelchair basketball by a score of 16-6.
