Dalton– The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has confirmed that a hunter-harvested white-tailed deer taken in Randolph County tested positive for chronic wasting disease. The deer was harvested just south of the Missouri border during the Arkansas modern gun deer hunt.

The Marion County Budget Committee met on Tuesday, December 28, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the proposed budget for calendar year 2022, in the Annex Courtroom. Joyce McCalla, Marty Nickels, Claudia Brigham and Talon Vancuren were in attendance as well as John Massey, Judge, Clinton Evans, Sheriff, Carla Purdome, Treasurer, Tonya Epps, Assessor and Cheryl Green, Juvenile Services. James Underwood was absent due to a death in the family.

Bull Shoals Council approved the 2022 budget at the December 30 meeting. With little discussion Resolution 2021-R-4 approving the 2022 budget passed unanimously in a roll call vote.

The University of Arkansas–Fort Smith has selected Dr. D. Antonio “Dean” Cantu as the Dean of the College of Health, Education, and Human Sciences. Cantu will begin his role Feb. 1, 2022. The search for the new head administrator has been underway since June of 2021, led by the ACES (Academic Career and Executive Search) national search firm.

The Marion County Republican Committee will meet Thursday, January 13, 2022, upstairs in the Marion County Courthouse at 7:00 pm. The public and members are invited to attend..

Mountain Home Moose Lodge #1953 will hold its monthly all-u-can-eat fried fish and shrimp dinner this coming Friday, January 7 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Guests may order fried fish, fried shrimp or a combination plate which also includes hushpuppies, French fries, coleslaw, vegetable, roll, dessert and a beverage.

Mountain Home- “The Compassionate Friends of the Twin Lakes Area has resumed support group meetings and will meet Thursday evening January 6, 2022 from 6pm-8pm in the lower level of the Hospice of the Ozarks Administration building at 811 Burnett Drive in Mountain Home. This support group meets the first Thursday of every month and is for parents, grandparents and siblings who have experienced the death of a child, grandchild or sibling. All Covid measures will be observed, and masks are required to attend. Family and friends are more than welcomed to attend as we begin this new year - please join us.
